DAC at Unity

What an excellent time Tom Wentworth and I had at this year’s Unity festival. In the not-very-accessible accessible toilet at the Tabernacl Church we set up our Newsflush ‘loodio’ for the weekend. It was great to be at the heart of the festival on the Hayes and we were delighted by how many people agreed to be interviewed about their work and their experiences at this year’s Unity.

The weather was kind and there was a terrific buzz on the Hayes all weekend. As well as working very hard in our loodio we also had time to see great performances by Taking Flight Theatre, Hijinx Academy students, Glad:Theatre, Elevator with Jessie Brett, Zim Zam and Kazzum.

We were very pleased that Unity Director, Ben Pettitt-Wade joined us for a chat, he was rightly very pleased with the success of the festival but it had been somewhat overshadowed by the vote to the leave the EU. With so many companies from Europe now attending the festival, how a small festival like Unity is going to be able to afford them in the future is a real worry.

Over the weekend we interviewed directors, performers and audience members, some in character, some not! Through the technology of soundcloud all the interviews are still available at  https://soundcloud.com/news-flush

Listen to the thoughts of George Auchterlonie, Leila Bebb, Elise Davison, Dan Edge, Beth House, Arthur Hughes,Jon Kidd, Sami Thorpe, Alistair Sill and Claire Wisener.
A big thank you to the Blog Maestro for doing such a great job with the technology – I flushed the loo!
